Mock Driving Test

A mock test is not a lesson. There's no coaching while you drive, no prompting, and no second attempt at a manoeuvre that didn't go well. You drive, and it gets marked — because that's the only way to find out what you'd actually do on test day rather than what you can do when someone is helping you.

Most learners are surprised by at least one thing. Usually it's not the driving; it's how differently the same roads feel when nobody is talking you through them.

How it runs

1. Briefing — what's about to happen, and what the examiner will and won't say to you. Kept short.

2. The drive — a full test-length route from a real test centre, including the manoeuvres, driven without coaching.

3. The debrief — every fault noted, in the same terms an examiner uses, plus whether it would have been a fail.

4. The plan — the specific things to work on, in the order they matter.

What gets marked

• Manoeuvres — reverse park, parallel park, three-point turn, kerbside stop

• Observation — head checks, mirrors, and whether they're visible enough to count

• Speed management and following distance

• Gap selection at roundabouts, intersections and lane changes

• Signalling, positioning and stopping accuracy

• Anything that would count as an immediate fail

When to book one

The useful window is roughly one to three weeks before your test. Early enough that there's time to fix what turns up, late enough that the result reflects how you'll actually drive on the day.

A mock test booked two days before a test is still worth doing, but understand what it can tell you: whether to go ahead, or whether to move the date.

The goal is not just clearing the test. The goal is to drive around safely.

An honest result

The point of a mock test is that the assessment is real. If the drive would not have passed, that's what you'll be told, along with what it would take to get there. Nobody is served by being sent into a test they aren't ready for — a rebooking costs less than a fail.

Before you book

Bring your NSW learner licence. Mock tests run in an automatic car. Book up to 30 days ahead with at least 24 hours notice, and cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before.
